Manos del Uruguay

[product_category category=”Manos del Uruguay”]

This wonderful a non-profit organization is owned and run by rural women.  Manos’ mission is to provide job opportunities for women in the countryside.  You can see the provenance of each skein of yarn.  The artisan who dyed it has signed the label.  When you purchase this yarn, you know exactly who benefits from the sale.

Manos del Uruguay is a member of the World Fair Trade Organization.

The Manos collective was born in 1968, as a way to help women in Uruguay’s countryside generate income.  In developing their products, they looked to resources they had at hand:  Wool, and the traditional skills passed down from generation to generation.
